Welcome to the site of the North Wiltshire & Gloucestershire Area of the British Driving Society

Welcome to the North Wiltshire and Gloucestershire Area website. This dedicated to this Area – YOUR Area, please feel free to send in news, contributions and photos. Remember our web address is now But this can also be accessed off the main BDS website. Please remember your membership WAS due on January 1st and non-renewal will mean that you cannot take part in any BDS organised event neither do you have Third party Cover to drive unless you also have cover with a separate company. REMEMBER this still will not entitle you to attend BDS events.  Please also check the main BDS Web site for any news of other nearby Areas and information that may affect you.

Following the Table Top sale and General meeting at the beginning of December last year  Rhona Lewis agreed to join me and be one of my Assistant Commissioners, and Hazel is continuing to look after the Finances. Both Rhona and I work full-time so I am hoping that on reading this someone may come forward as a further AAC and be willing to take on the Admin side. There isn’t a great deal, but it is important like submitting requests for events information so that it will be covered by the Organiser’s Insurance.  If you think you can help, please give me a call and have a chat. Rhona and I are hoping to send out a questionnaire shortly to find out a little more about you and what would be of interest to you.

You will see in the following Calendar section that some events have been planned for the coming year. There will be just three Area Shows this year but they will include a fun section which may include cones, a Treasure Hunt, long reining and anything else we can think of. If you have any ideas, please let me know. The Show are one of the main means of raising funds for the Area, which will allow us to put on some reasonably priced training around the Area. Karen Harvey the Oxfordshire AC and Hazel will be organising their 14th BDS TREC at Eynsham Park, with hopefully no clashes in dates, so please put this in your diary. The schedule will be on the Web site shortly.

PIease keep in contact with Rhona and myself with any ideas you may have, once the weather is a little more reliable I hope to arrange drives about the Area, but it would be helpful if you could let us know of any suitable venues. Hazel will be continuing as a Support Officer and also Rights of Way Officer for Wiltshire and be contacted on   There is currently a vacancy for a similar position for Gloucestershire,  it entails attending the County Councils Rights of Way meetings a few times of year and feeding back information from our Members.

Take care and happy safe driving.

Happy driving, be seen and be safe.
